This is a drink that we came up with together because we both like enjoying a nice bottle of champagne and margaritas on a hot summer day on the beach. We thought, hey why don’t we mix these two drinks together and form one awesome tasting one! We fused the essence of sparkling champagne with the ingredients of a margarita to form this fabulous tasting cocktail.
The Skinny Senorita works perfectly as a cocktail before, during or after dinner, and looks similar to a classic margarita but it defiantly has a twist. It is a wonderful complement to a Mexican dinner as well as a fun cocktail for the beach, out on the town, or wherever you want to take it!
We call it “Skinny” because it is served in a tall skinny Champagne flute, rather than the short wide glass that is more common for margaritas.
History and Background
The sparkling wine we decided to use is Andre Brut. This is California’s go to sparkler since 1966. Made with chardonnay and other white grapes, this wine has fresh notes of pear, lemon and green apple aromas.
Sparkling wine is said to have originated in the Champagne region of France, though there are those who say it was actually developed in the UK, Italy or the Limoux region of France. Although the Champagne region has mastered the art of “method champenoise”, beautiful sparkling wines are produced in many other countries as well. When using the “methode champenoise,” one must implement a secondary fermentation process in the bottle. This produces the carbonation and the nice bubbles. A second method is the tank method where the bubbles are produced within a tank before bottling. Sparkling wine is refreshing and delightful for any and all occasions.
Ingredients for One Serving
- 2 ounces Triple Sec
- 6 ounces of brut sparkling wine (We used Andre’s Brut)
- 2 ounces white tequila
- 4 T. of Lime Juice
- Lime wedges
- 1 T. of granulated sugar
- For sugared rim: put about 1 T. of granulated sugar into a shallow dish. Wet the rim of each glass, all the way around with a lime wedge or you can put some lime juice into another shallow dish. Dip each rim into the lime juice or use the lime wedge to coat the rim. Then dip each rim into the sugar. Once you have the rims coated set them aside.
- For the Skinny Senorita: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the 2 oz of Triple Sec, 6 oz of c brut sparkling wine, 2 oz white tequila, 4 teaspoons of lime juice. Give it a good gentle shake about 4 times. Then strain your Skinny Senorita into your prepared glass and garnish with a lime wedge and Enjoy!
